Chemistry Laboratory Instructor

About the role

The College of General Education at UDST is seeking a Chemistry Laboratory Instructor to design, deliver and manage chemistry laboratory courses for undergraduate students. The position reports to the Department Head and requires a Master’s degree in Chemistry or a related field.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, develop and deliver laboratory sessions for General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Health Sciences Chemistry, Biochemistry and related courses.
• Prepare, set up and test all experiments, ensuring equipment, chemicals and safety resources are ready.
• Instruct students on experimental techniques, theory, safety protocols and guide data collection and analysis.
• Evaluate laboratory reports and assignments, providing constructive feedback.
• Maintain a safe, clean and organized laboratory, overseeing equipment maintenance and inventory management.
• Contribute to curriculum development, risk assessments and continuous improvement of lab materials.

Required profile

• Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry or a closely related discipline.
• Minimum three years of full‑time teaching experience in an English‑speaking higher‑education environment.
• Strong knowledge of chemistry principles, laboratory techniques and safety practices.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills in English and ability to work collegially within a team.
• Demonstrated reliability, flexibility and enthusiasm for hands‑on, experiential teaching.

Required skills

• Laboratory techniques and chemical handling.
• Operation of chemistry teaching equipment (e.g., spectrophotometers, titration setups, chromatography instruments).
• Implementation of laboratory health and safety procedures, including risk assessment and waste disposal.
• Preparation and testing of experiments and instructional materials.
• Inventory management of chemicals, reagents and consumables.
