Design System Specialist - Contract

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Design System Specialist to establish, scale, and govern enterprise design systems across both design and development environments. The successful candidate will ensure consistency, accessibility, and efficiency throughout the design‑to‑development lifecycle while enabling teams to deliver high‑quality digital products at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Create, maintain, and govern the organization’s design system, including foundations, design patterns, reusable components, documentation, and usage guidelines.
• Manage and optimise design libraries and reusable assets within Figma.
• Define and maintain design tokens such as colors, typography, spacing, and themes, and establish automated pipelines between design and development.
• Partner with development teams to build and maintain coded component libraries using tools like Storybook, ensuring alignment between design and production‑ready components.
• Develop governance, contribution models, version control, and release processes for the design system.
• Embed accessibility standards, responsive behaviour, and quality‑assurance practices into all components.
• Drive consistency, scalability, and adoption of the design system across multiple products and teams.
• Identify opportunities to improve and automate design‑to‑development workflows.

Required profile

• Strong experience building and managing design systems in large organisations.
• Expert knowledge of Figma, component libraries, and design operations.
• Hands‑on experience with design tokens, design system governance, and design‑to‑code workflows.
• Solid understanding of accessibility standards and responsive design.
• Proven ability to collaborate with front‑end development teams and manage version control and release processes.
