Faculty Position in Journalistic Writing & Reporting

About the role

Northwestern University in Qatar is seeking a full‑time, open‑rank faculty member to join its Journalism and Strategic Communication Program. The appointment focuses on Journalistic Writing and Reporting, contributing to undergraduate and future graduate education.

Key responsibilities

• Teach two courses per semester, including core journalism courses, electives aligned with research interests, and interdisciplinary offerings such as “Ways of Knowing,” Doha Seminar, or graduate seminars.
• Develop and deliver curriculum for emerging minors (e.g., Africana Studies, AI and Media, Media and Politics, Middle East Studies, Strategic Communication).
• Engage in scholarly research and maintain a robust record of journalistic production, preferably with a focus on the Global South.
• Participate in institutional service, shared governance, and mentorship of students.
• Collaborate with NU‑Q’s Institute for Advanced Study of the Global South, AI and Media Lab, and Media Majlis Museum.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in journalism, communication, media studies, or a related field (preferred).
• Demonstrated experience producing professional journalism content across multiple platforms.
• Evidence of a strong research or publication record, especially concerning the Global South.
• Linguistic competence in English and, preferably, Arabic or another regional language.
• Commitment to teaching excellence, student mentorship, and community service.

Required skills

• Professional journalism production across print, digital, broadcast, or multimedia platforms.
• Curriculum design and classroom instruction at the university level.
• Research methodology and scholarly writing.
