Laboratory Coordinator – Chemistry

About the role

The Laboratory Coordinator will support the chemistry teaching lab at the Pre‑Medical Education Program in Qatar, ensuring smooth laboratory operations, preparation of reagents, and assistance during practical sessions.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare reagents, solutions, and fabricate apparatus components; set up and clean laboratory equipment.
• Support the “Proteins” module of the CAPSTONE: Advanced Laboratory course and assist instructors with session preparation.
• Provide technical assistance during laboratory sessions, demonstrate procedures, and reinforce proper techniques.
• Brief users on laboratory procedures, equipment operation, material locations, waste disposal, and clean‑up practices.
• Maintain laboratory cleanliness, conduct inspections, organize stockrooms, and perform inventory counts of chemicals, supplies, and equipment.
• Coordinate ordering, receipt, embroidery, distribution, and annual dry‑cleaning of laboratory coats.
• Prepare purchase orders, liaise with Procurement and vendors for timely acquisition of supplies and equipment.
• Record keeping and coordinate hazardous chemical waste disposal with FHSS according to policy.
• Assist with chemistry‑related student recruitment, community outreach, and other institutional activities.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in a research or teaching laboratory environment.
• Previous training in laboratory safety preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills in written and spoken English.
• Ability to work independently or collaboratively within a team.
• Physical ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds unaided.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of laboratory equipment maintenance and stock management.
• Understanding of laboratory quality assurance and safe waste disposal.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
