Open Rank Faculty – Journalistic Writing & Reporting

About the role

Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q) invites applications for a full‑time, open‑rank faculty appointment in Journalistic Writing and Reporting. The position is housed in the Journalism and Strategic Communication Program and supports both undergraduate and future graduate education.

Key responsibilities

• Teach two courses per semester, including core journalism courses, electives aligned with research interests, and interdisciplinary offerings such as “Ways of Knowing” or graduate seminars.
• Develop and deliver curriculum that reflects global‑south perspectives and emerging media practices.
• Mentor and advise students, fostering ethical and impactful storytelling.
• Contribute to program development, institutional service, and shared governance.
• Collaborate with NU‑Q research centers such as the Institute for Advanced Study of the Global South and the AI & Media Lab.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in journalism, communication, media studies, or a closely related field (preferred).
• Demonstrated record of professional journalism production across platforms.
• Evidence of scholarly research or a promising research trajectory focused on the Global South.
• Linguistic competence in English and preferably Arabic or another regional language.
• Commitment to teaching excellence, mentorship, and community engagement.

Required skills

• Professional journalism production (print, digital, broadcast, or multimedia).
• Research and publication in journalism or media studies.
• Ability to work with global communities and interdisciplinary teams.
