Open Rank Faculty Position in Political Economy (Global South)

About the role

Northwestern University in Qatar invites applications for a full‑time open rank faculty position in Political Economy, focusing on the Global South. The successful colleague will join the Liberal Arts Program and contribute to undergraduate and future graduate education, research, and program development.

Key responsibilities

• Teach two courses per semester, including core disciplinary courses, electives aligned with research interests, and interdisciplinary offerings such as the “Ways of Knowing” course or graduate seminars.
• Develop and supervise undergraduate and graduate research projects, especially those related to the Global South.
• Engage in scholarly research with a strong publication record or a promising trajectory for recent PhDs.
• Participate in institutional service, shared governance, and collaborative initiatives with the Institute for Advanced Study of the Global South, AI and Media Lab, and Media Majlis Museum.

Required profile

• PhD or equivalent in political science, economics, sociology, anthropology, history, media studies, global studies, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated research agenda in critical, comparative, or transnational political economy with a focus on the Global South.
• Experience working with global communities and linguistic competence relevant to the research area.
• Commitment to high‑quality teaching, mentoring, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
