Principal Design Engineer - Structures

About the role

AECOM is looking for an accomplished Principal Engineer - Structures to join its team in Doha, Qatar. This is a leadership role driving the structural design vision for complex, large-scale infrastructure projects, mentoring a team of engineers and overseeing design from concept through construction administration in line with Qatar building codes and international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and direct the structural design for major infrastructure and commercial projects, optimizing performance, cost, sustainability and constructability
• Perform advanced structural analysis and modeling with industry-standard software
• Review, approve and give feedback on designs, calculations and technical documentation
• Mentor and coach junior and mid-level engineers
• Collaborate with architects, MEP engineers and project managers
• Ensure compliance with Qatar building codes, IBC, Eurocode and other standards
• Manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines, and take part in client presentations and design reviews
• Conduct quality assurance reviews, contribute to proposals and estimations, and stay current with new technologies and materials

Required profile

• 15+ years of progressive experience in structural engineering design and analysis
• 5+ years in a principal, senior or lead engineer role with leadership and team management experience
• Experience mentoring junior and mid-level engineers
• Preferred: PE licensure or equivalent international qualification
• Preferred: experience with infrastructure projects, bridges, tunnels or specialized structural systems

Required skills

• SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE or equivalent structural analysis software
• AutoCAD, Revit and BIM coordination
• Knowledge of international building codes and Qatar regulations
• Preferred: FEA software, LEED/Estadima and BIM clash detection
