Roads Design Engineer

About the role

GHD is seeking a Roads Design Engineer to support a large‑scale Buildings & Infrastructure project in Qatar. The role involves delivering complete road design solutions from concept through detailed design, ensuring compliance with local authority standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare all design stages of road geometry, signing, marking and ancillary works for major urban and inter‑urban projects, including tunnels, grade‑separation interchanges and service roads.
• Investigate alternatives, select routes and develop bill of quantities for design items.
• Assign tasks to junior engineers, supervise their work and obtain road design approvals.
• Coordinate with local authorities for geometry, corridor approvals and NOCs through the Common NOC System.
• Submit, discuss and follow up on approvals and permits in liaison with local authority engineers and TIS consultants.
• Collaborate closely with the design team, sub‑consultants and clients to ensure satisfaction and project alignment.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s degree advantageous).
• Minimum 10 years of road design experience, with at least 5 years in Qatar or the Middle East.
• In‑depth knowledge of Qatari authority procedures, standards and regulations (QHDM, NOC/approval processes).
• MMUP registration mandatory or obtainable within six months of joining.
• Road Safety Audit certification is a plus.
• Proven ability to multitask, meet deadlines and work effectively in interdisciplinary teams.
