Senior Commercial Manager – Cargo Terminal Project

About the role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Commercial Manager to join an international engineering consultancy on a major cargo terminal and international airport project in East Africa. The role provides senior‑level commercial and quantity surveying expertise, focusing on cost management, contracts, procurement, and commercial administration throughout the project lifecycle.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage all commercial and quantity surveying activities from inception to completion.
- Oversee pre‑contract and post‑contract functions including cost planning, tendering, procurement, valuations, variations, and final accounts.
- Provide strategic advice on cost and commercial matters to the Project Management team and client.
- Identify, monitor, and mitigate contractual and commercial risks; support dispute avoidance and resolution.
- Review and monitor project costs, budgets, forecasts, and commercial performance.
- Ensure effective administration and management of construction contracts.
- Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders on commercial issues.
- Prepare commercial reports and recommendations for senior project management.
Required profile
- Recognised degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
- Minimum 15 years of professional experience in quantity surveying, cost management and commercial management of large, complex building projects.
- At least 5 years of pre‑ and post‑contract experience on large international airport projects (preferred).
- Experience on airports handling >20 MAP / 2 million tonnes per year is an advantage.
- Chartered Quantity Surveyor or equivalent professional qualification.
- Strong knowledge of building construction, contracts, procurement and dispute resolution.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant commercial/quantity‑surveying software.
- International project experience, preferably in Africa or emerging markets, is a plus.
