Senior Consultant – General Surgery

About the role

The Senior Consultant in General Surgery is the most senior physician in the department, reporting only to the Department Chair or Section Head. This role provides direct patient care, oversees a team of consultants and junior doctors, and ensures high‑quality clinical decisions across the service.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients admitted under your name.
• Supervise and mentor consultants, junior doctors, and other clinical staff, ensuring safe and effective care.
• Collaborate with the department chair on service development, budgeting, staffing, and funding matters.
• Lead teaching and training activities for junior doctors and medical students.
• Drive academic and research initiatives aligned with departmental priorities.

Required profile

• Western medical qualification (UK, USA, Canada, Australia, or equivalent).
• Minimum of 5 years post‑qualification experience in General Surgery.
• Valid medical license/registration from home country and eligibility for licensing in Qatar.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork abilities.
• Commitment to patient safety, clinical excellence, and high standards of care.
