Assistant Professor of Strategic Communication & Emerging Technologies

About the role

Northwestern University in Qatar invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Strategic Communication. The position is housed in the Journalism and Strategic Communication Program and focuses on emerging technologies such as AI, VR, and machine learning.

Key responsibilities

• Teach two courses per semester, including core, elective, and interdisciplinary offerings.
• Develop and deliver the required “Ways of Knowing” course and contribute to honors and graduate seminars.
• Engage in scholarly research on emerging communication technologies, with a preference for work rooted in the Global South.
• Participate in program development, institutional service, and shared governance.
• Collaborate with NU‑Q’s Institute for Advanced Study of the Global South, AI and Media Lab, and Media Majlis Museum.

Required profile

• Recent PhD in Communication, Media Studies, or a related field with an active research agenda.
• Demonstrated ability to work with global communities and a commitment to teaching excellence.
• Experience in both US higher education and the Arab region is highly valued.
• Proficiency in English; Arabic or another regional language is an advantage.
