Airworthiness Review Lead

About the role

The Airworthiness Review Lead ensures the continued validity of aircraft airworthiness certificates by leading and managing the airworthiness review schedule. This includes a full, documented review of aircraft records and a physical survey, confirming the aircraft has remained within a controlled environment since delivery or the last review. The role also leads a culture of continuous improvement within CAMSS and acts as the CAMSS Continuing Airworthiness subject matter expert on safety investigations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the development, production and issuance of QEAF Typhoon ARC certificates, with fully documented reviews of aircraft and records at the required intervals under QEAFAR.
• Reconcile findings from airworthiness reviews, record them, communicate them and ensure escalated issues get effective solutions within required timescales.
• At a strategic level, manage maintenance planning and airworthiness reviews so aircraft unavailability is deconflicted, and capture fleet-wide trends that could pose a risk to continuing airworthiness.
• At a tactical level, coordinate the ARC schedule with other aircraft activities and communicate ARC priorities and findings across stakeholders.
• Lead continuous improvement by identifying process and policy gaps, producing reports and plans, and conduct and manage safety investigations with clear root causes and recommendations.
• Ensure compliance with QEAFAR and the Continuing Airworthiness Management Exposition (CAME), and with regulatory requirements such as ITAR, EaPW and ISO.
• Apply Human Factors, Error Management, Risk Management and Safety Assurance, and support independent assurance audits and the resolution of audit findings.

Required profile

• BSc in a relevant technical management discipline or equivalent.
• Formal aeronautical maintenance training.
• Recent auditing experience in a continuing airworthiness-controlled environment.
• Substantial experience as an engineering manager in a maintenance and support environment, including at least 5 years managing continuing airworthiness.
• Extensive knowledge of CAw processes and practices.

Required skills

• Good knowledge of standard aircraft maintenance systems and practices (fast Mil Air).
• Strong quantitative, analytical and project management skills, with lean management principles.
• Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills; able to analyse and interpret data.
• Courses: Human Factors, SMS A and SMS B, E&PW awareness, ITAR awareness, and IT literacy.
