Consultant Clinical Scientist or Physician – Microbiology & Virology

About the role

We are looking for a Consultant Clinical Scientist in Clinical Microbiology and Virology or a Physician Clinical Microbiologist to join a dynamic team delivering a new, state‑of‑the‑art laboratory service. The role will support a 24/7 pathology department that provides over 50 inpatient, outpatient and emergency services, including complex paediatric cardiac surgery and renal transplantation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide laboratory diagnostic testing and interpret results for clinicians.
• Maintain and improve quality control and assurance programmes.
• Communicate findings and recommendations to medical staff.
• Participate in division management and strategic development.
• Teach and mentor residents, fellows and laboratory staff.
• Conduct basic and applied research related to microbiology and virology.

Required profile

• PhD or MD/MBBS (or equivalent) with relevant board certification or fellowship (e.g., FACMG, FCCMG, FRCPath, FFSc/FRCPA).
• At least 8 years of experience in a clinical diagnostic laboratory, or 2 years post‑board certification as a physician.
• Demonstrated expertise in laboratory diagnosis of paediatric disease and familiarity with modern laboratory platforms.
