Aeromedical Assessor – Medical Certification Specialist

About the role

The Aeromedical Assessor ensures that aviation medical standards and regulations are applied, enforced, and implemented across aeromedical centres and examiners. Reporting to the Aero‑Medical Examiner, the role safeguards the health and safety of aviation personnel through rigorous medical certification and oversight.

Key responsibilities

• Appoint, designate and renew authorisations for Aeromedical Examiners (AMEs) and Aeromedical Centres (AeMCs).
• Audit and inspect medical facilities, equipment and personnel at approved centres.
• Conduct routine and non‑routine inspections, surveillance audits and ensure compliance with ICAO, EASA/JAA and FAA regulations.
• Form and coordinate medical review boards for borderline cases.
• Handle medical enquiries, issue dispositions and certificates, and resolve appeals.
• Liaise with medical authorities of other ICAO Contracting States and participate in incident investigations.
• Supervise, train and oversee other aeromedical staff.
• Participate in national aviation emergency preparedness planning.

Required profile

• Certified medical practitioner (MBBS, MBChB or MD) with post‑graduate qualification in public health or occupational medicine.
• Successful completion of basic and advanced aviation medicine courses.
• Minimum 5 years experience as an Aeromedical Assessor or in a similar regulatory role.
• Familiarity with ICAO Annex 1, EASA/JAA and FAA medical regulations.
• Experience in medical certification, auditing, and stakeholder liaison within civil aviation authorities.
