About the role

The Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University seeks an Executive Director to provide strategic and visionary leadership across high‑priority areas of computer science and artificial intelligence. The role drives research excellence, innovation, and global impact while aligning with national and university priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a research strategy that supports HBKU, Qatar Foundation, and national priorities.
• Provide scientific and organizational leadership to advance QCRI’s mission and research excellence.
• Lead interdisciplinary, mission‑driven research programs in AI, cybersecurity, health informatics, Arabic language technology, and related fields.
• Secure diverse funding sources, including grants, industry partnerships, and commercial collaborations.
• Strengthen partnerships with leading universities, research centers, industry partners, and global technology companies.
• Oversee the institute’s budget, recruitment, mentorship, and talent development activities.

Required profile

• Clear, uninterrupted, and active research track record in computing‑related disciplines.
• Strong awareness of emerging developments in artificial intelligence.
• Proven experience leading large research teams or institutes.
• Demonstrated ability to attract and manage external funding.
• Extensive network within academia and industry.
