Reliability Engineer I (Definite Contract)

About the role

A 2-year definite contract Reliability Engineer position in an OPCO (joint venture) operating an oil and gas facility with offshore and non-producing onshore sites, based in Doha, Qatar. The post is part of the permanent team and is on a resident basis (5 days a week), with occasional trips to the offshore site. The engineer's work supports production performance, feeds the maintenance department's medium- and long-term investment plan, and changes how preventive maintenance is carried out by the offshore team.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze unplanned technical failures across maintenance disciplines and produce reliability improvement recommendations for senior management and shareholders
• Drive an incident-free environment and coach engineers on reliability-centered maintenance studies to optimize preventive maintenance plans
• Produce monthly reliability reports from SAP S/4HANA corrective data, Smart Signal and other sources, and analyze the monthly SECE report to reduce the maintenance and integrity backlog
• Estimate vital function availability and reliability using ISO 14224 methods, and estimate MTBF, MTTF and failure rates with confidence limits
• Lead root cause analyses using CTA or other structured methods and lead obsolescence studies
• Develop a list of top reliability issues (bad actors) and prioritize uptime losses using Pareto analysis
• Build smart reporting from online monitoring sources and coach the team on reliability awareness and cost awareness
• Support brownfield and greenfield site design and development, and promote reliability awareness around SAP S/4HANA reporting

Required profile

• BSc degree in a science or technical field, preferably with a certification in maintenance or reliability
• Minimum 10 years' experience in petrochemical, refining, oil and gas exploration or a similar industry in maintenance or reliability
• Significant knowledge of offshore plant and equipment and maintenance systems
• Experience leading teams, with strong presentation skills and communication with a broad audience
• Medically fit to travel to offshore platforms; fluent English with technical vocabulary
