Senior Mechanical Engineer – Umbilical & Power Cable

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with deep expertise in subsea umbilical and power cable design for a multi‑billion offshore redevelopment project. The role is based at the Doha headquarters with regular site visits and is offered on a 36‑month fixed‑term contract.

Key responsibilities

• Design and engineer subsea umbilicals and power cable crossing systems.
• Manage EPIC contractors and vendors, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
• Review manufacturing and testing documentation for quality, safety and standards adherence.
• Provide technical recommendations on deviations, change requests and approvals.
• Resolve technical challenges and coordinate with other disciplines and external stakeholders.
• Oversee umbilical crossing design, load‑out, installation, and J‑tube pulling operations.
• Support power cable crossing design, shore approach, and pulling analysis.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; Chartered/Professional Engineer status preferred.
• Minimum 12 years post‑graduate experience in the oil & gas sector, with at least 10 years focused on subsea umbilical and cable design.
• Experience on at least two major offshore EPIC projects with direct responsibility for umbilical and power cable packages.
• Proven PMT/PMC experience managing large‑scale projects and contractors.
• Strong knowledge of relevant design codes and standards (ISO, API, Shell DEPs).
• Background in umbilical manufacturing and testing, preferably with an umbilical manufacturer.
