Speech and Language Pathologist I

About the role

Sidra Medicine is hiring a Speech and Language Pathologist I who works under the supervision of the Speech and Language Pathology Supervisor. The role provides safe and effective speech and language therapy to patients and their families, including children with communication, feeding and swallowing difficulties. The therapist assesses needs, plans and delivers therapy programmes independently, collaborates with the wider health care team and promotes continuous improvement and professional development.

Key responsibilities

• Hold a caseload and deliver individualised speech and language therapy, including discharge planning
• Administer standardized, age-appropriate speech and language tests and use non-standardized assessments when needed
• Contribute to reducing length of stay and wait times, working with Case Management
• Document care accurately and promptly, alert the medical team to changes in patient status and refer to other specialties when needed
• Liaise with community services, schools and families, and educate patients and families about the therapy plan
• Provide consultation to patients, families, staff and community agencies, and act as an advocate for patients' informed choices
• Maintain the department's library of therapy resources and equipment, report failures and safety issues, and follow infection control policies
• Assist in supervising and mentoring peers, junior staff and therapy students, and participate in audits, research and quality improvement activities
• Take part in patient education, new staff orientation and retention initiatives, and uphold confidentiality and hospital policies

• Effective communication skills, able to convey information even when barriers exist
• Commitment to continued professional development and to the organization's values

Required skills

• Maintenance of Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners (QCHP) licensure
• Up-to-date Life Support training (BLS, AED) as required by MoPH and Sidra
• Evidence-based, patient-centred care approach
