Structural Designer - Marine & Offshore

About the role

A structural designer is needed to develop, complete and check structural outfitting drawings for ships and mobile offshore drilling units under the direct supervision of the Design Engineer - Structural. The project lasts 6 months and is extendable, and the employer is looking for local applicants only.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and check structural outfitting drawings against contract scope, codes, IMS procedures, design parameters, site survey input and material compliance.
• Design structural details including shop fabrication drawings, assembly and nesting plans, weld maps, connection details and material take-offs (MTO).
• Prepare detailed engineering drawings based on the structural engineer's concept, in line with class rules and yard standards.
• Conduct site surveys, prepare field checks, take dimensions and propose site modifications.
• Develop structural MTOs and create JD models from approved-for-construction drawings, exporting shop drawings for fabrication.
• Develop lifting plans for structural modules and design jigs and fixtures.
• Produce drawings within the estimated schedule, check them before issue, and own any drawing errors through root cause analysis and corrective action.
• Ensure drawings meet contract technical specs, class rules and statutory code requirements, and follow yard safety rules.

Required profile

• Minimum ITI (draftsman trade) or diploma in mechanical engineering, or equivalent.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in drawing development of offshore structures such as jackets, topsides and jack-up rigs (new build), preferably in a shipyard.
• Familiarity with marine structural design specifications, welding types and standards, and drawing presentation.

Required skills

• Sound knowledge of AutoCAD (essential).
• Knowledge of steel detailing software TEKLA (essential).
• Ability to help the design engineer meet department quality targets.
