Backend Software Engineer – Finance/Trading Focus

About the role

UBS is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to design and develop robust, AI‑assisted trading applications. The role involves working in an agile, globally distributed team to deliver high‑quality, scalable solutions for wealth management clients.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop new software products using AI‑assisted and agentic engineering practices.
• Ensure delivery of secure, stable, and scalable code that integrates with the enterprise ecosystem.
• Analyze business requirements, create architecture diagrams, and implement solutions.
• Support production systems by resolving high‑priority defects and deploying fixes.
• Improve engineering productivity and automation through effective use of AI technologies.
• Collaborate with global IT teams and other business units.

Required profile

• 6+ years of experience with Java (Kotlin a plus), Spring Boot, REST APIs.
• Hands‑on experience with Kafka and distributed caches (Apache Ignite preferred).
• Strong knowledge of security, cloud hosting architectures, and enterprise integration.
• Proficiency in creating technical documentation, UML and sequence diagrams.
• Familiarity with software design patterns, distributed systems, and modern web technologies.
• Experience with React, TypeScript, WebSockets (STOMP, Socket.io) and AI‑assisted coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot).
