Director of Communications

About the role

The Director of Communications will lead the development and execution of HBKU’s communications strategy, enhancing the university’s reputation locally, regionally and internationally. Reporting to senior management, the role ensures consistent, clear messaging across all stakeholders and media channels.

Key responsibilities

• Direct and manage all communications materials and maintain brand integrity across platforms.
• Develop and implement a multi‑channel communications strategy for HBKU and partner institutions.
• Oversee media relations, act as spokesperson for the President, and respond to media inquiries.
• Coordinate with senior leadership to align outreach, public relations and branding initiatives with institutional objectives.
• Lead the production of internal and external publications, newsletters and stakeholder reports.
• Plan and execute public appearances, lectures, contests and exhibitions to promote the university.
• Provide expert advice on communication strategies, event coordination and overall messaging.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Communications, Public Relations or a related field.
• At least 8 years of relevant experience, including 5 years in a senior management role within higher‑education or comparable organization.
• Strong knowledge of Qatar’s communications regulations.
• Excellent negotiating, planning and writing abilities; Arabic proficiency is an advantage.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications.
