HV Electrical Engineer – Primary Substations

About the role

GHD is seeking an experienced HV Electrical Engineer to lead the design, construction, and commissioning of high‑voltage primary substations in Qatar. The role supports the Construction Phase Services Business Group, working closely with project managers, resident engineers and multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical review and supervision of HV primary substation works, including GIS/AIS switchgear, power transformers, HV cables and earthing systems.
• Coordinate contractor and vendor submissions, ensuring compliance with drawings, specifications, utility requirements and international standards.
• Support testing, commissioning, energisation and hand‑over of substation and building electrical services.
• Collaborate with civil, structural, mechanical, telecom and utility teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Provide technical guidance on protection & control, SCADA/SAS integration, lightning protection and power system studies.

Required profile

• Minimum 14 years (168 months) of experience in high‑voltage substation engineering.
• Proven ability to manage complex projects and interface with multiple stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of international standards and utility authority requirements.
