Lifting and Rigging Engineer

About the role

The Lifting and Rigging Engineer will design, review and supervise lifting operations on oil & gas and heavy‑industry projects, ensuring safety, efficiency and compliance with Qatar Energy and RLIC standards. The role involves preparing lifting plans, selecting equipment, performing technical calculations and providing on‑site support for critical lifts.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and review detailed lifting and rigging plans, method statements and risk assessments.
• Evaluate lifting requirements for cranes, hoists and rigging based on load, geometry and site constraints.
• Select, verify and ensure certification/inspection status of lifting equipment and accessories.
• Provide on‑site technical support for complex lifts and coordinate with construction, HSE and project teams.
• Perform lifting studies, load calculations and crane capacity checks using engineering software.
• Prepare lifting drawings, calculations and sketches for client and authority approvals.
• Support training and competency verification of rigging crews and operators.
• Lead or assist incident and near‑miss investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain lifting plans, registers, inspection records and as‑built documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 10+ years of experience in lifting/rigging engineering within oil & gas, construction or heavy industry.
• Strong knowledge of Qatar Energy standards, RLIC regulations and brown‑field project requirements.
• Excellent communication, coordination and problem‑solving abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar drafting tools.
• Experience with lifting analysis software or other engineering calculation tools.
