Painting Inspector – Coating Quality Assurance

About the role
The Painting Inspector ensures that all surface preparation, coating application, and painting activities on industrial projects meet the required specifications, international standards, and health‑safety‑environment (HSE) procedures. Working closely with EPC contractors and client inspection teams, the role guarantees that protective coating works are executed in line with approved Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and method statements.
Key responsibilities
- Inspect and monitor all painting and protective coating activities on‑site.
- Verify surface preparation, cleanliness, profile, and environmental conditions before coating.
- Check blasting and painting equipment for suitability and proper calibration.
- Confirm coating material batch numbers, shelf life, storage conditions, and mixing procedures.
- Monitor paint mixing, thinning, application methods, and coating intervals.
- Measure wet film thickness (WFT) and dry film thickness (DFT) and ensure compliance.
- Coordinate adhesion, holiday detection, porosity, and other coating tests.
- Identify coating defects such as runs, sags, pinholes, blistering, and insufficient thickness, and ensure corrective actions are completed.
Required profile
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Coating Technology or related field (preferred).
- Relevant coating inspection certification (e.g., AMPP/NACE Coating Inspector, BGAS‑CSWIP Painting Inspector, FROSIO).
- 5–8 years of experience in painting/coating inspection on oil & gas, petrochemical, refinery, LNG or industrial construction projects.
- Strong background in surface preparation, abrasive blasting, protective coatings, and industrial painting.
- Experience collaborating with EPC contractors, specialist subcontractors and client inspection teams.
