Automation Engineer

About the role

Saipem is seeking an Automation Engineer to join the Commissioning Department of the COMP2 project. Reporting to the Commissioning Manager, you will play a key role in delivering automation solutions for complex on‑shore and off‑shore energy projects.

Key responsibilities

• Review automation deliverables (P&IDs, control logic, I/O lists, loop diagrams, cause‑and‑effect charts) and validate vendor documents for PLC, DCS, SCADA, ESD and F&G systems.
• Perform pre‑commissioning activities such as loop checking, continuity, insulation, calibration and functional checks before energisation.
• Execute commissioning tasks including PLC/DCS logic testing, cause‑and‑effect validation, alarm and interlock verification, and system integration tests.
• Conduct FAT, SAT and performance testing, troubleshoot automation and instrumentation issues, and prepare comprehensive documentation for hand‑over.
• Coordinate with engineering, construction, vendors, subcontractors and client representatives, and participate in technical meetings and progress reporting.
• Ensure compliance with HSE policies, participate in HAZOP and risk assessments, and apply safe commissioning practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, Control or Automation Engineering.
• 5–10+ years of experience in EPC projects, preferably in Oil & Gas or Energy.
• Hands‑on commissioning experience is essential.
• Fluent English; additional languages are a plus.

Required skills

• Control systems: PLC, DCS, SCADA, ESD, F&G.
• Field instrumentation: pressure, flow, level, temperature.
• Communication protocols: Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP.
• Testing & commissioning tools.
• Strong knowledge of IEC, ISA and API standards.
