Emergency Services Dispatcher

About the role

The Emergency Services Dispatcher works under the supervision of the Emergency Dispatcher Lead to receive, record and manage incoming requests for fire and emergency response. Operating as a call‑taker telecommunicator, the role ensures that critical incidents are dispatched quickly and accurately.

Key responsibilities

• Answer and log emergency calls for fire and related services.
• Dispatch appropriate personnel and equipment to incident locations.
• Read posted orders, determine staffing needs and communicate assignments via telephone or radio.
• Update the dispatch board with assignment details and verify locations with field personnel.
• Issue regular and special equipment as required.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Emergency Dispatcher Lead.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent (copy required).
• IFSAC or Proboard Telecommunicator II certification.
• IFSAC or Proboard Hazardous Materials Awareness certification.
• Minimum two years of experience as a fire department emergency service dispatcher.
• Fluent reading, writing and speaking of English.

Required skills

• Clear communication on radio and telephone.
• Accurate recording, transmission and reporting of information.
