Environmental Specialist

About the role

The Environmental Specialist will lead environmental permitting and provide expert advisory and compliance support for QatarEnergy LNG projects and operations. This role ensures all activities meet local and international environmental regulations while driving greenhouse gas (GHG) management and sustainability initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop permitting philosophy, prepare Environmental Applications, Scoping Studies and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA/ESHIA) in line with best practices.
• Lead project teams to define permitting scope, timelines and review strategies, and approve related documentation.
• Coordinate with third‑party service providers to deliver permits on schedule and verify GHG emissions data.
• Negotiate permit terms with the Ministry of Energy and Climate Change (MoECC) and secure timely approvals.
• Design internal controls to minimise third‑party reliance, assess carbon footprint, set GHG KPIs and provide reporting guidance.
• Analyse resource use and emissions data to identify energy‑saving and cost‑containment opportunities.
• Represent the company at external forums, lead CSR programmes and support corporate planning on GHG and flaring strategies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science.
• At least 8 years of experience in oil & gas, process or petrochemical industries, including 5 years in environmental management.
• Strong knowledge of international environmental standards, regulations and best‑practice management.
• Proven experience delivering environmental projects from concept through engineering.
