Fiber Network Planner – Damascus Based

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Fiber Network Planner to join our team in Damascus, Syria. The role focuses on planning and optimizing DWDM and optical transport networks, ensuring capacity, protection, and diversity across backbone, metro, and inter‑site links.

Key responsibilities

• Develop DWDM and optical transport plans for backbone, metro and inter‑site connectivity.
• Translate traffic demand, service and IP/MPLS requirements into wavelength, OTN and channel capacity plans.
• Design and validate optical paths, protection schemes, ROADM/OADM usage (including CDC‑F), and power‑budget constraints.
• Review existing inventory, fibre routes, shelf/card/port capacity and wavelength utilisation.
• Coordinate with fibre planners, IP/MPLS planners, operations, vendors and implementation teams.
• Produce planning outputs such as wavelength allocation, equipment requirements and migration plans.
• Identify risks related to capacity exhaustion, route diversity, optical impairments or inaccurate records.
• Ensure compliance with vendor engineering guidelines, standards and documentation governance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in DWDM/OTN/optical transport planning or engineering.
• Fluent in English and Arabic.
• Strong stakeholder management and ability to work under delivery pressure.

Required skills

• DWDM and OTN planning, wavelength allocation, ITU‑T grids and Flex‑Grid.
• ROADM/C‑ROADM design, CDC‑F technology and Super‑Channel concepts.
• Multilayer protection knowledge (OLP, ASON, G.8032/ERPS).
• Synchronization protocols: SyncE and IEEE 1588v2 (PTP).
• Experience with major optical vendor NMS/EMS and inventory systems.
• Optical budget analysis, fibre impairment assessment and regeneration requirements.
• Transponder and muxponder configuration and capacity planning.
