Floating Dock Operator

About the role

The Floating Dock Operator is responsible for executing all floating dock activities under the guidance of the Dock Master. This role ensures safe docking and undocking of vessels, maintains ballast control, and supports maintenance operations within a shipyard environment.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out floating dock operations according to Dock Master instructions and the established schedule.
• Identify vessel weight (single or co‑docking) and enter LCG data into the ADAC system before lifting.
• Perform pre‑operation inspections at least 72 hours before any lifting or lowering activity.
• Continuously monitor and record ballast tank conditions day and night.
• Manage dock drafts while vessels ballast or de‑ballast.
• Assist the maintenance team with ballast tank operations and operate ballast pumps as required.
• Report any irregularities or alarms promptly to the Dock Master and maintenance personnel.
• Operate the trolley to centre vessels while overseeing lifting procedures.
• Maintain workplace cleanliness, proper tool usage, and ensure gutter holes are open during descent and closed after lifting.
• Adhere to all safety and quality protocols and perform additional duties as directed by the Supervisor.

Required profile

• Trade apprenticeship or secondary school education.
• Minimum of 3 years experience as a dock operator.
• Training in floating dock operations is an advantage.
• Working knowledge of English.
• Experience in a shipyard or similar facility and familiarity with floating dock activities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the ADAC system for LCG data entry.
• Operation of ballast pumps and monitoring of ballast tanks.
• Use of the trolley for vessel centering.
• Conducting pre‑operation inspections and adhering to safety protocols.
