Fund Accountant

About the role

The Fund Accountant is responsible for the corporate accounting and reporting function for companies and SPCs, mainly incorporated in the Cayman Islands, and oversees the activities, outputs and processes behind the financial statements. The role requires a strong foundation in financial accounting as applied to investment management.

Key responsibilities

• Act as system owner and sponsor for the company's accounting and reporting system.
• Prepare and review financial data, prepare financial statements and reports for internal and external use, and resolve accounting and reporting issues in line with GAAP, applicable regulations and company policies.
• Prepare various financial reports as required.
• Support other departments and managers on finance and payment matters.
• Deal with internal and external auditors and provide them with relevant information.
• Work closely with the service provider team on finance-related matters.
• Maintain confidentiality and ethics, and comply with legal, regulatory and internal compliance requirements such as AML & CTF, sanctions, data protection, fraud control, whistleblowing, conflict of interest and insider dealing policies.
• Ensure systematic good outcomes for clients in line with the Conduct Risk policy.
• Maintain the general ledger across proprietary funds and discretionary client mandates, and prepare period-end trial balances, income statements and fund balance sheets.
• Manage the expense accrual cycle, including management fees, performance fees, custody, administration and audit costs.

Required profile

• Direct experience designing and maintaining a chart of accounts for fund structures, with a clear understanding of how accounts are organised across assets, liabilities, equity, income and expenses at the fund entity level.
• Deep understanding of how money moves through a fund, from investor subscriptions and redemptions through to income recognition, fee accruals and financial statement preparation.
• At least one institutional fund accounting or portfolio management platform.
• Ability to maintain high professional standards and to safeguard commercially sensitive information.
