Group Legal Director

About the role

The Group Legal Director (General Counsel) serves as the principal legal adviser to the Board and Executive Management of an international energy group. The role oversees all legal, governance, compliance, dispute and regulatory matters across multiple jurisdictions, with a focus on high‑value arbitration and litigation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage high‑value international arbitration, litigation, mediation and dispute resolution matters across multiple jurisdictions.
• Act as the legal lead on disputes arising from Production Sharing Contracts, concession agreements, joint ventures, EPC contracts and other energy infrastructure projects.
• Manage external counsel, arbitration tribunals, expert witnesses and overall litigation strategy.
• Represent the company in ICC, LCIA, ICSID, SIAC and other international arbitration forums.
• Advise senior management and the Board on dispute risks, claim strategies and settlement negotiations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) and admission to practice in a recognised jurisdiction; Master’s (LLM) preferred.
• Minimum 20 years of legal experience, including at least 10 years in senior legal leadership roles within international energy, oil & gas or related sectors.
• Proven experience as General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel or Group Legal Director managing cross‑border disputes and arbitration.
• Strong Middle‑East experience and demonstrated board‑level advisory capability.

Required skills

• Negotiating and advising on Production Sharing Contracts, concession agreements, joint operating agreements, joint venture agreements, gas sales and transportation agreements, EPC contracts and project development agreements.
• Leading international arbitration and litigation under ICC, LCIA, ICSID, SIAC or equivalent forums.
• Managing disputes involving governments, state‑owned entities, regulators, JV partners and EPC contractors.
