Mechanical Technician – Commissioning

About the role

The Mechanical Technician will be responsible for the commissioning, start‑up and ongoing maintenance of mechanical equipment in a reverse‑osmosis water treatment facility. The role involves hands‑on work with pumps, motors, valves, gearboxes, compressors and associated piping systems to ensure reliable plant operation.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on pumps, motors, valves, gearboxes, compressors and piping.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair and overhaul equipment including high‑pressure and booster pumps, RO skids, membranes, filters, heat exchangers and lifting equipment.
• Carry out equipment alignment, lubrication, laser alignment and condition monitoring.
• Participate in pre‑commissioning, commissioning, start‑up and shutdown activities, including functional testing and pressure testing of piping.
• Document work in the CMMS, complete maintenance reports and support root‑cause analysis of failures.
• Coordinate with operations, electrical and instrumentation teams while following permit‑to‑work and HSE procedures.

Required profile

• Diploma or Technical Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Maintenance.
• 3–5 years of experience in desalination, water treatment, power plants, oil & gas or similar industrial facilities.
• Familiarity with RO desalination systems and ability to read mechanical drawings, P&IDs and technical manuals.

Required skills

• Preventive and corrective maintenance techniques.
• Pump overhauling, bearing and mechanical seal replacement (centrifugal, vertical, submersible, dosing).
• Assembly/disassembly of plug, butterfly and check valves.
• Laser alignment, dial‑gauge measurement and condition monitoring.
• CMMS usage and maintenance reporting.
• Pump vibration analysis and predictive maintenance.
• Compressor and motor disassembly/reassembly.
• Working with PVDF and CPVC piping materials.
• Reading mechanical drawings, P&IDs and technical manuals.
