On-Call MHPSS Consultant (Music Trainer)

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) seeks an on‑call Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Consultant with a strong background in music training to deliver psychosocial interventions for Afghan nationals living in Al‑Saliyah Camp, Qatar. The consultant will use music‑based activities to promote resilience, emotional well‑being and social cohesion among vulnerable groups.

Key responsibilities

• Design and facilitate group music sessions, instrument and vocal training tailored to the needs of camp residents.
• Integrate music‑based activities with existing psychological counseling and mental‑health services.
• Conduct informal assessments of participants’ emotional state and refer individuals to advanced MHPSS services when required.
• Collaborate with IOM mental‑health professionals, community workers and local partners to ensure coordinated support.
• Document session outcomes and contribute to project monitoring and reporting.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Education, Performing Arts, Music Therapy, Psychology, Social Work or a related field.
• Minimum three years of professional experience in music training, therapy or related community‑based programmes.
• Experience working with diverse or vulnerable populations, preferably migrants or refugees.
• Fluency in English; working knowledge of Pashto and/or Dari is an advantage.

Required skills

• Proficiency in one or more musical instruments and/or vocal training.
• Ability to lead and facilitate group‑based activities.
