Principal Electrical Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead the electrical design and execution strategy for offshore oil & gas projects, primarily in the Middle East. The role involves managing interfaces, risk control, and ensuring compliance with client and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Communicate and coordinate with the client on electrical design philosophy and resolve technical issues.
• Collaborate with third‑party vendors, national and local authorities to address regulatory matters and close out review comments.
• Review technical tender documents, provide clarifications and prepare or review Technical Bid Evaluations (TBE).
• Deliver at least six technical training sessions (minimum 20 hours) per year to design teams.
• Perform any additional tasks assigned by the company related to electrical engineering.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in electrical system design for oil & gas, including at least two projects in Saudi Arabia as project leader.
• Strong knowledge of marine/offshore electrical engineering, international specifications (API, ASME, IEC, ATEX) and Saudi/ Qatari regulations.
• Hands‑on experience with offshore power system architectures (main power, emergency power, UPS) and Saudi Aramco project requirements.
• Proven ability to identify, assess and mitigate technical risks.

Required skills

• Electrical system design for offshore platforms (power distribution, lighting, grounding, lightning protection, explosion‑proof systems).
• Selection of transformers, switchgear, distribution panels, VFDs and motors.
• Explosion‑proof ratings (Ex d, Ex e, Ex i) and IP ratings (IP66, IP67).
• Power system analysis: short‑circuit, load, voltage‑drop, power‑factor correction and protection scheme design.
• Relay coordination and overload/earth‑fault protection.
• Automation and control: SCADA, DCS, PLC.
• Cable and wiring design, routing and environmental protection considerations.
