Process Safety Engineer

About the role

The Process Safety Engineer will support the Head of Safety and Loss Prevention Senior Engineer in implementing and maintaining the Process Safety Management (PSM) system across projects and existing operations.

Key responsibilities

• Promote and ensure compliance with QAFCO Occupational Health & Safety, Environment, Quality, Responsible Care and PSM requirements.
• Assist the Head of Safety in developing documentation and monitoring activities related to the PSM system.
• Develop and maintain Process Safety Specifications and Standards for all projects and assets.
• Partner with operational and technical teams to verify compliance with PSM requirements and good engineering practices.
• Lead a company‑wide network to create and update process‑safety procedures and requirements.
• Prepare technical specifications for equipment procurement, evaluate bids and recommend suppliers to meet safety criteria.
• Coordinate activities within the Process Safety group and lead campaigns that promote process safety culture.
• Define short‑ and long‑term safety objectives, targets, strategies and key performance indicators.
• Generate and review weekly and monthly PSM performance reports.
• Plan and support Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) studies such as HAZOP, SIL, QRA, LOPA, FMEA, MHA/DHA, dispersion studies and safety cases.
• Organise work activities with project and operations teams to meet schedule, specification and cost requirements.
• Lead or participate in investigations of process‑safety incidents, identify root causes and drive corrective actions.

Required profile

• Proven experience conducting Process Hazard Analysis studies (HAZOP, SIL, QRA, LOPA, FMEA, MHA/DHA, dispersion studies, safety cases).
• Experience developing process‑safety specifications, standards and performance indicators.
• Background in investigating process‑safety incidents and implementing corrective actions.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional operational and technical teams.
