Process Safety Specialist

About the role

The Process Safety Specialist provides expertise, support and consultation on process safety, risk management planning and regulatory interpretation to the plant, aiming for zero process safety incidents, incident-free performance and full compliance with OSHA's Process Safety Management requirements, the Operational Excellence System and Responsible Care standards.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate compliance with OSHA's Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements and champion a process safety culture aligned with the Journey to Zero goal.
• Steward the MOC/PSSR process so changes are managed and documented; lead or take part in RCAs to find root causes.
• Run PHAs, LOPAs, QRAs, facility siting and other risk identification and mitigation processes, and review events for process safety impact.
• Maintain Process Safety Information (PSI) documents, track action plans for deficiencies using PSM metrics, and compile and analyse process safety KPIs.
• Support equipment reliability programmes, liaise with parent companies on new standards, and coach departments on process safety issues.
• Lead internal PSM audits and regulatory inspections, and implement Operational Excellence and Responsible Care systems, including corrective actions and compliance tracking.
• Develop and deliver process safety training, run awareness campaigns and provide technical advice on compliance and risk-based decisions.
• Improve departmental systems and procedures, and prepare timely, accurate reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering; a Master's degree is preferred.
• 5-7 years of relevant experience in the Oil & Gas industry; petrochemical experience preferred.
• English proficiency; working knowledge of Arabic is preferred.
• Experience as an expatriate is required for Qatarization contributions.
