Production Equipment Specialist

About the role

The Production Equipment Specialist supports Northwestern University in Qatar’s media production facilities. Working in the equipment cage, the specialist ensures that photography, digital cinema, TV broadcast and multimedia equipment is ready, functional and available for classroom and project use.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily operations of the equipment storage room, including check‑ins, check‑outs and the WebCheckout ticketing system.
• Prepare, install, operate, repair and maintain complex media systems such as Canon and RED cinema cameras, DSLRs, ENG rigs and advanced lighting (Aladdin Bi‑flex, ARRI Skypanels, Aputure COB).
• Provide in‑classroom support, training and mentorship to faculty, students and guest lecturers on all media production equipment.
• Edit video projects using Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects and other Creative Suite tools.
• Collaborate with IT staff to maintain networked computer systems and production software (Adobe Creative Suite, ENPS, Web Checkout).
• Perform minor equipment repairs, diagnose issues, assess damage and coordinate external repairs or replacements.
• Create and track invoices, fines and fees related to equipment usage.

Required profile

• Ability to work under limited supervision with flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
• Strong communication skills for training faculty and students.
• Experience in a media production environment, preferably in an academic setting.

Required skills

• Canon Cinema cameras, RED Cinema cameras, DSLRs, ENG systems.
• Advanced lighting equipment: Aladdin Bi‑flex, ARRI Skypanels, Aputure COB fixtures.
• Adobe Creative Suite – Premiere Pro, After Effects.
• ENPS and Web Checkout ticketing system.
• Networked computer systems for media production.
• Video editing and equipment repair.
