Rotating Machinery Technician

About the role

The Rotating Machinery Technician is responsible for preventive maintenance, repair, overhaul and troubleshooting of rotating equipment such as steam turbines, gas turbines, compressors and pumps at Qatar Fertiliser Company in Mesaieed. The role works independently under normal supervision while ensuring compliance with occupational health, safety, quality, energy and environmental procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out routine and non‑routine maintenance activities on rotating equipment independently.
• Provide verbal or written updates to supervisors to monitor work progress.
• Obtain cold work permits and conduct toolbox meetings before starting tasks.
• Identify and report equipment problems to prevent malfunctions.
• Follow strict safety procedures, including LOTO, isolation, confined‑space and hazardous‑area requirements.
• Use precision measuring tools (micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, feeler gauges, bore gauges) to verify tolerances.
• Perform rigging and lifting operations using approved slings, shackles, chain blocks and hoists.
• Lead contracted manpower during shutdown activities.
• Conduct condition checks (vibration, temperature, lubrication) on pumps, compressors, turbines and motors.
• Execute alignment tasks using dial gauges and laser alignment systems.

Required profile

• Familiarity with the allocated area of work and the rotating equipment involved.
• Ability to perform basic maintenance jobs independently under normal supervision.
• Capability to lead a team of contracted workers during shutdowns.
• Experience conducting toolbox meetings and obtaining work permits.
• Strong adherence to safety, health and environmental procedures.
