Job description

About the role

The Qatar Environment & Energy Research Institute (QEERI) is seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist to join a multidisciplinary team addressing the impacts of atmospheric aerosols on climate in arid regions. The role involves leading applied research that combines advanced measurement, characterization, and modelling to inform environmental‑health policy and indoor‑air‑quality standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead data analysis and interpretation of existing aerosol‑climate datasets to advance scientific understanding.
  • Design, execute, and manage field measurement campaigns characterising aerosol properties such as new‑particle formation, size distribution, optical properties and chemical composition.
  • Investigate aerosol‑cloud interactions and their radiative forcing implications across the Arabian Peninsula.
  • Integrate observational data with regional and global atmospheric models to quantify aerosol climate effects.
  • Publish peer‑reviewed research, present at international conferences, and contribute to competitive research funding proposals.
  • Mentor postgraduate students, research assistants and early‑career researchers, and provide technical reporting to policymakers.

Required profile

  • PhD in Atmospheric Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years post‑PhD research experience in aerosol science or climate impacts.
  • Proficiency with data‑analysis tools such as Python, R, MATLAB or IGOR Pro.
  • Hands‑on experience designing and conducting field measurements and troubleshooting research‑grade instruments.
  • Demonstrated record of peer‑reviewed publications and ability to work independently within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Required skills
