Technical Director – Energy

About the role

As a Technical Director – Energy at GHD, you will report to the Business Group Leader, Energy, Environment & Water and act as a senior technical and commercial leader for the Middle East Energy business. You will leverage your established market reputation to win new work and then lead its delivery, advising utilities, regulators, developers and major energy users across the GCC.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to the regional growth strategy, shaping service offerings, resourcing and investment priorities.
• Win and deliver projects, acting as Project Director and technical authority on electricity networks, renewable energy, BESS and grid integration assignments.
• Develop and manage senior client relationships, securing pipeline and backlog against sales and win‑rate targets.
• Ensure strong financial performance of projects, including revenue, margin, utilisation and cash forecasting.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams, providing technical review, risk assessment and assurance on designs and studies.
• Mentor and develop technical talent, supporting accreditation and succession planning.

Required profile

• 15+ years of experience in consulting, utilities, regulators or major energy users, with a proven track record in the Middle East.
• Established network of senior client and industry contacts in the GCC.
• Recognised technical depth in at least one core area such as transmission & distribution, substations, BESS, renewable energy or grid integration.
• Strong commercial acumen, bid leadership and project financial management.
• Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional accreditation preferred.
• Fluent English; Arabic advantageous.
