Technical Safety Specialist

About the role

The Technical Safety Specialist will ensure a safe and healthy working environment within research laboratories by conducting comprehensive risk assessments, providing expert HSE advice, and delivering targeted training. This role works closely with laboratory managers and the facilities team to oversee all safety aspects of ongoing projects.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct detailed risk assessments and hazard analyses for laboratory processes.
• Collaborate with lab managers and facilities staff to implement safety controls.
• Oversee HSE aspects of projects, ensuring compliance with local and international regulations.
• Provide expert advice, training, and mentorship on safety best practices.
• Perform regular safety inspections and audits.
• Prepare and submit compliance reports and audit documentation.
• Maintain up‑to‑date safety documentation, including SOPs and emergency procedures.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Environmental, Mechanical Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
• 6–8 years of full‑time experience in an environmental, health, and safety role.
• Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, NEBOSH IGC, CHST, PMP are preferred.
• Understanding of the academic research environment and culture.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent written communication skills; Arabic proficiency is an advantage.
