Traffic Management Specialist

About the role

The Traffic Management Specialist coordinates the movement of Global Prepositioned Material Services (GPMS) cargo to worldwide destinations by air, land, and sea. The role ensures full compliance with international and U.S. transportation laws, Department of Defense guidance, and internal quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, accept, and process outbound/inbound cargo documentation (DD Form 1149/1348-1) for the Defense Transportation System (DTS).
• Verify nomenclature, quantity, Transportation Control Numbers (TCN), Transportation Account Codes (TAC), consignor/consignee codes, and hazardous/classified material certifications.
• Select appropriate commodity codes, determine the most efficient mode of shipment, and manage government transportation fund obligations.
• Prepare shipping documents, assign TCNs, produce labels, issue truck manifests, and maintain manifest logs.
• Enter transportation data into CMOS, GATES, IBS, and related systems with high accuracy.
• Inspect hazardous materials for proper packaging, marking, labeling, and documentation in accordance with AFMAN 24‑604, 49 CFR, IATA, and IMDG regulations.

Required profile

• Demonstrated ability to work with multiple logistics and tracking systems.
• Knowledge of International Trade and Arms Regulations (ITAR) and relevant performance work statements.
• Completion of AMMO‑43, AMMO‑62, and Wood Packaging Materials (WPM) certification/recertification training.
• Strong understanding of dangerous goods regulations and hazardous material handling.
