VAT Tax Consultant (Value Added Tax Expert)

About the role

The VAT Expert supports the establishment and implementation of the Authority’s Value Added Tax function. Working under the VAT Head, the role provides technical and operational expertise to ensure smooth rollout and ongoing effectiveness of the VAT system.

Key responsibilities

• Translate VAT policy into operational procedures, draft manuals, rulings and guidance documents, and monitor international VAT developments.
• Define and document VAT processes (registration, filing, payments, refunds, appeals) and coordinate with IT/Digital teams for system readiness, testing and upgrades.
• Establish compliance controls, support audit and enforcement teams, and provide analytical inputs for risk management.
• Collect and analyse VAT data, prepare KPI reports, and contribute to mid‑year and annual performance reviews.
• Support training initiatives, provide technical VAT assistance to taxpayers, and help raise VAT awareness through communication campaigns.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, Economics, Finance or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• 16+ years of experience in VAT or other indirect taxes, with hands‑on experience in compliance, operations or taxpayer services.
• Strong understanding of GCC VAT frameworks and international VAT/GST models.
• Professional tax certification (e.g., CTA, ACCA, CPA, GCC VAT Diploma) is an advantage.
