ALN Support Teacher

About the role

The ALN Support Teacher assists classroom teachers in meeting the social, emotional and learning needs of students with additional learning needs (ALN). Working within a multidisciplinary team, the role focuses on fostering inclusion, safety and personalised support for each pupil.

Key responsibilities

• Observe pupils, report behavioural changes and support the classroom teacher.
• Build trusting relationships with pupils and communicate at their level of understanding.
• Promote inclusion, diversity and equal access to learning.
• Undertake administrative tasks, maintain written records and monitor daily progress.
• Provide feedback to pupils, parents and carers under teacher guidance.
• Collaborate with educational psychologists, physiotherapists and other professionals.
• Assist with classroom preparation, display, planning and individual learning programmes.
• Supervise SEN pupils, ensuring safety and accessibility of learning activities.
• Support personal hygiene, advice and guidance, acting as a carer when needed.
• Participate in meetings and case reviews, contributing verbally or in writing.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education or equivalent, with SEN/ALN certification.
• Minimum three years of experience working with SEN & ALN students.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
• Strong understanding of child development and learning.
• Patience, attentiveness and outstanding interpersonal abilities.
• Cultural sensitivity in a dynamic global setting.

Required skills

• IT literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office applications for record‑keeping and communication.
