Applications Engineer – Digital Solutions for Subsurface

About the role

The Applications Engineer will support and continuously improve the application portfolio used by North Oil Company's Subsurface business lines, including Reservoir, Development, Drilling and Wells departments. The role bridges business users, DBS teams and vendors to deliver secure, reliable, and fit‑for‑purpose digital services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day functional and technical support for subsurface applications across Windows and Linux environments, handling configuration, upgrades, packaging and retirement.
• Design, prototype, develop and maintain digital tools, automations and AI‑enabled solutions on approved NOC platforms, translating business requirements into scalable products.
• Manage application lifecycle activities such as testing, deployment, change management, disaster‑recovery procedures and licence optimisation.
• Collaborate with architecture, cloud, data, cybersecurity and service‑management teams in agile, multidisciplinary settings.

Required profile

• Minimum 6 years of IT experience, including implementation, administration or support of business‑critical applications.
• Hands‑on experience with subsurface‑specific software in at least one domain (e.g., reservoir engineering, geoscience, drilling).
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Petroleum Engineering or related field.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., ITIL, cloud, AI/ML) are a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python, preferably with Django framework; experience with APIs, SQL, scripting and source‑control.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure), CI/CD pipelines, GitHub/GitHub Codespaces and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
• Understanding of databases, identity and access management, networking, Windows/Linux environments and application security.
• Familiarity with AI‑enabled development platforms, machine‑learning services, generative AI and intelligent automation.
