Barge Engineer

About the role

The Barge Engineer supervises and coordinates all marine activities onboard, ensuring safety, environmental compliance, and operational efficiency during rig moves, lifting operations, and emergency situations.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise rig move preparation, stability calculations, and jacking operations, ensuring compliance with checklists and weather windows.
• Maintain and verify the condition of towing equipment, mooring winches, and spare gear.
• Perform daily stability and load assessments, managing ballast, fuel, water, and centre‑of‑gravity limits.
• Direct loading, unloading, and complex crane lifts, ensuring safe load distribution.
• Coordinate with drilling crews to support safe drilling and work‑over operations.
• Participate in the Emergency Response Team, conduct safety and well‑control drills, and ensure personnel are trained on emergency procedures.

Required profile

• Proven experience supervising marine operations on a barge or offshore rig.
• Knowledge of safety, environmental, and firefighting equipment standards.
• Ability to interpret weather forecasts and soil condition reports for rig moves.
• Familiarity with emergency response protocols and drill execution.
