Electrical Power Production Technician

About the role

The Electrical Power Production Technician is responsible for installing, operating, and maintaining electrical generating plants and mobile power equipment. This role ensures reliable power output by performing inspections, repairs, and adjustments on generators, switchgear, and auxiliary systems.

Key responsibilities

• Install, operate, and modify electrical power plants, distribution equipment, and automatic transfer panels.
• Perform routine inspections, tests, and servicing of safety, fuel, lubrication, cooling, and pressure systems.
• Adjust and synchronize engine‑generator sets to maintain correct voltage, frequency, and phase alignment.
• Operate high‑voltage switches, circuit breakers, rheostats, and other control devices on switchboards.
• Diagnose malfunctions, replace defective components, and conduct corrosion control.
• Bench‑check, calibrate, and verify repaired assemblies using precision test equipment.
• Maintain accurate logs of meter readings, wear measurements, fuel consumption, and maintenance actions.
• Develop and update maintenance procedures to improve efficiency and prevent failures.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience operating and maintaining engines, generators, and power distribution equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical publications, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Commitment to safety, environmental policies, and accurate record‑keeping.

Required skills

• Operation of high‑voltage switches, circuit breakers, and rheostats.
• Use of instruments such as ammeters, voltmeters, frequency meters, and synchroscopes.
• Adjustment and synchronization of engine‑generator systems.
• Precision test equipment for bench checks and calibrations.
• Inspection and maintenance of fuel, lubrication, cooling, and pressure systems.
