Electrical Technician (Commissioning)

About the role

The Electrical Technician will support pre‑commissioning, commissioning and start‑up of electrical systems in industrial plants. The role involves testing, troubleshooting and documenting all activities to ensure safe and reliable operation.

Key responsibilities

• Perform pre‑commissioning and commissioning of MV/LV switchgear, transformers, MCCs, VFDs, UPS, DC systems, generators and control panels.
• Execute loop checking, continuity, insulation resistance, grounding and protection relay tests.
• Support energisation, start‑up and performance testing of plant equipment.
• Lead technical walk‑downs with clients, record punch items and assist in their resolution.
• Prepare commissioning records, test reports and daily progress reports.

Required profile

• Diploma or Technical Certification in Electrical Engineering/Technology.
• 3‑5 years of experience in electrical installation, testing and commissioning, preferably in SWRO desalination, water‑treatment or power plants.
• Familiarity with HSE policies, LOTO and AEP/SAEP procedures.

Required skills

• Knowledge of MV/LV switchgear, HV/LV transformers, MCCs, VFDs, soft starters, UPS and DC systems.
• Proficiency with testing equipment: insulation resistance tool, CPC100, CIBANO Kit, Hypot Kit, CT analyzer, CMC Kit.
• Experience in loop checking, continuity, megger, grounding and protection relay testing.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, single‑line diagrams and cable schedules.
