Graduate Trainee Engineer – Automation

About the role

Petrotec Group is seeking a Graduate Trainee Engineer in Automation to support and maintain PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems. The role offers hands‑on experience in industrial automation within a dynamic environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of PLC systems and control panels.
• Troubleshoot faults in PLC, HMI, SCADA, and field instrumentation.
• Monitor system alarms, diagnose issues, and restore normal operation.
• Assist with PLC program backup, restoration, firmware upgrades, and version control.
• Conduct I/O checks, loop testing, signal verification, and maintain communication networks (Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, Profibus).
• Maintain maintenance records, fault logs, service reports, and ensure compliance with safety and QHSE standards.

• Proactive graduate eager to learn and take ownership of tasks.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with departmental teams.
• Commitment to safety procedures, permit‑to‑work systems, and QHSE compliance.

Required skills

• PLC programming and troubleshooting.
• HMI and SCADA system knowledge.
• Industrial communication protocols: Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, Profibus.
• Experience with I/O checks, loop testing, and signal verification.
• Understanding of firmware upgrades and backup procedures.
