Health Information Manager

About the role

The Health Information Manager leads the HIM department to ensure accurate, high‑quality management of patient medical records. This role collaborates with physicians, nurses, allied health professionals and non‑clinical stakeholders to collect, organize and store records securely, while guaranteeing timely documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Identify training needs and develop talent in partnership with stakeholders.
• Interview, onboard and performance‑manage HIM staff, including medical records, clinical coding and documentation improvement teams.
• Establish, update and enforce policies and procedures for health information management.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, accreditation and licensing requirements for the EMR system.
• Monitor EMR data for accuracy and completeness; lead initiatives to improve data quality.
• Collaborate with Quality team to design and execute data audits.
• Analyze clinical data for research, quality improvement and reporting.
• Facilitate external reporting and compliance documentation.
• Work with Finance to develop an integrated, centralized revenue‑cycle system and ensure staff training.
• Support billing processes by ensuring coding accuracy and revenue capture.
• Report data trends monthly and as requested.
• Lead EMR improvement projects and ensure confidentiality and privacy compliance.
• Develop annual department goals aligned with organizational strategy.
• Assist with budget planning for the HIM department.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
• Current, valid RHIT or RHIA certification (or equivalent).
• Minimum eight years of health information management experience, including at least three years in a managerial role.
